Review – Trewax Neutral Floor Cleaner
We are currently renting a three bedroom home. We’ve lived here for fourteen months, and for fourteen months, I have absolutely HATED the floors! My current landlords purchased the house about two years ago after the elderly woman who owned it passed away. I suppose they figured that they could buy the house, clean it up, rent it out and watch over their tenants VERY closely (the live directly across the street).
As they were cleaning it up, they ripped up the carpet and some tile to discover that the original flooring was terrazzo…at least 30-year-old terrazzo that has NOT been protected and/or maintained (the terrazzo image pictured is NOT my ugly floor). It is stained, cracked and completely destroyed where they scraped the tile off of it by the front door. If you know anything about terrazzo, I’m sure that you can picture exactly what I’m talking about. We’ve done a pretty decent job of covering up the ugly flooring as much as possible with area rugs and throw rugs and such, but there’s really only so much that can be done.
When we first moved in, I had tried all kinds of cleaners, but because terrazzo is so porous, you have to be really careful with which cleaners you use. As you get to know me, you’ll understand just how much I love things that smell good and that I’m rather anal about having a fresh and clean smelling house. So, I tried quite a few neutral cleaners, but none of them smelled good enough and as I grew to hate my floors more and more I sort of gave up. I switched to Fabuloso. I had read that it was safe for terrazzo and I LOVE the smell.
With two teenaged boys, a toddler, two puppies and a husband, I’m quite sure that you can imagine how often the floors need to be washed. I find myself lugging around the vacuum and then following with the mop a minimum of three times each week, and keep in mind , this is not just one room…It’s the ENTIRE house! This is quite a big job and maybe I wouldn’t mind it so much if the floors looked nicer when I was done.
Last weekend, we decided to do a sort of end of summer deep cleaning of the house, to clean every spot that gets missed on a regular basis. We decided to clean under and behind everything in the house and get every crack and crevice. When my son moved the large area rug in the living room, it was like night and day…LITERALY. I truly never realized that Fabuloso was such a TERRIBLE “cleaner.” It was then and there that I decided to NEVER use it again, regardless of how much I liked the scent.
I ran to the store on a mission to buy the first neutral cleaner I could find (I was in a rush to get back to the cleaning). I grabbed a bottle of Trewax Neutral Floor Cleaner, which can be used on any stone, concrete, tile, vinyl, rubber and no-wax floors, and headed home. When I got there, a vacuumed the room and started to prepare the mop bucket. I have to say that I was quite pleased with the scent. It is a sort of light and clean pine smell. So far, so good, but the real test was still ahead. I decided to try it first where the dirty part of the floor met the clean part. I dunked the mop and……………..TADAAAAH!!! I was SO relieved! My floors look so much better! My house smells fresh and clean and there is no yucky film left on the floor. Although there is only so much I can do with the floors themselves, I absolutely LOVE this product and will never use anything but Trewax Neutral Floor Cleaner!
