Injured by a Drunk Driver! A MeBee needs help!
On September 24, 2015 my friend and fellow MeBee, Missy and her little boy were crossing the street in Pittsburgh, PA as they had done a thousand times before. Missy was in her wheelchair and her little boy was walking just a step behind her.
Upon getting just a couple feet into the road, a drunk driver just ran a stop sign and forever changed their lives. This poor 8 year old boy saw his mother get hit by this car in her wheelchair! Every time I think about it, it breaks my heart. It was a hard enough to hit to mangle a wheel chair and cause Missy to nearly lose her life.
To top it off, this drunk driver took off at the scene! HIT AND RUN! What kind of monster would hit and run a mother in front of her child and take off – leaving a child distraught and confused!?
Here is a video of the news coverage.
(NOTE: Do not watch video if you can’t handle it. They do stop the video before the impact.)
Missy spent time in a coma, underwent multiple surgeries to reconstruct part of her body, and suffered several broken bones including her back – in which she had surgery to fuse bones and put in rods. She was also suffered many cuts, stitches and bruises.
She is now in a rehabilitation center where she is undergoing several sessions of painful physical therapy each day. It’s lonely because at night – its her stuck there alone. Her husband goes home with their little boy. She can’t even talk well on-line or on the phone because of her injuries.
Bad Things Happen to the Best People
Missy is one of those people that never asks for help – and I have offered. She wants to do it on her own – everything. She was ill for several years and ended up in a wheelchair. She waited 2 years for that wheelchair — and this drunk driver destroyed it only 2 months after she got it. She was finally mobile again — and this happened.
Missy has a wonderful and devoted husband who has had to stop work so he can take care of her son because she is fighting to recover in a rehabilitation center and is dealing with her son not understanding when mommy will be home. Its just such a huge amount of stress for all of them. How horrible to worry about rent, gas, food, etc and worry about Missy’s recovery and how they will get there with gas, etc.
How You Can Help…
Missy made a GoFundMe.com page (its VERY difficult for her to type right now) and is need of any possible donations to at least help with the cost of living and gas, etc so her husband can get back and forth to her at the rehabilitation center so he and her son can visit. Even if you can only spare $1…….please help her out. She is the sweetest voiced, absolute nicest person. She, her little boy and her husband did not deserve to have their lives wrecked by a drunk driver! Please help out if you can. Missy is one of our Freebies4MeBeez users. This could have happened to any of us but it happened to her.
