Castile Soap 10 Best Uses! It’s Organic, Vegan and Cost-Effective!
I recently heard about a cleaner called Castile Soap that is claimed to be safe, to contain organic oils and to top it off, it’s vegan! I thought I would give it a try. I don’t know about you, but I want nothing more than to use the absolute safest products possible in my home. Below, I will list the Castile Soap 10 Best Uses.
I switched about a year ago to using all “Method” brand cleaners because I liked how they smelled and that they were safe. I have to admit, they aren’t the cheapest cleaners and there are a couple that aren’t all that up to par – but still, I prefer them to using dangerous chemicals around my home. I don’t want to find out later that the cancer someone in my home gets was caused by a cleaner I used. That would be horrible. Upon receiving my Cove Pure and Vegan Castile Soap in Lavender Scent (I chose lavender but they also have scent free), I began to try various different recipes and uses for the product. I bought a 1 liter bottle of the Cove Castile Soap – so I had plenty to play with!
The following are the Castile Soap 10 Best Uses that I found and have tried. Give them a try – you are gonna love!
Castile Soap 10 Best Uses
1. Body Wash / Hand Soap
Mix 1/2 Cup of the castile soap with 1/2 cup of distilled water.
2. Facial Cleanser
Mix 1 tbsp. castile soup, 1 cup distilled water and 1/2 cup witch hazel in a bottle. If you prefer face wipes, pour over a stack of wash cloths and store them.
3. Lathering Shave Soap
Rub several drops of the castile soap straight from the bottle in between your hands and then lather up your legs, face or body and shave as usual! (This works VERY well!)
4. Shampoo – Safe for Babies, too!
Mix 2 tbsp. castile soap with 1 cup distilled water. Follow it up with an acidic rinse so that you can balance out the pH of your hair. For the acidic rinse, mix 1 part lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and 8 parts water. My hair smelled of lavender lemon and I have to say – SMELLED SO GOOD!
5. Dog Shampoo
Now this is one of my favorite uses. The dogs smell SO good and I noticed a reduction in flea issues as well as a reduction in skin irritation (my dogs have issues with hot spots in the summer). All you have to do is mix 1 cup castile soap to 1 cup distilled water and then massage it into their fur. Be sure to rub it in really good. I found it best to let it soak on my dogs for about 3-5 minutes. I then rinsed them off with water from the tap. Cove recommends rinsing them in a mixture of 1 cup white vinegar to 1 gallon of water. DO NOT USE ON CATS! Lavender oil can be toxic for cats.
6. Dish Soap
Just simply mix 1 part castile soap to 2 parts water and then just hand wash your dishes with it.
7. All Purpose Cleaning Spray
Mix 1/2 cup castile soap with 4 cups warm water and just spray and clean your home without the worry of toxins!
8. Kitchen and Bathroom Scrubbing Cleaner
Mix 1/4 cup castile soap with 3/4 cup baking soda and 1 tbsp water. Once you mix it well, ad 1 tbsp. vinegar and stir it up until you get a paste-like consistency. Add baking soda if you want it to be more pastey. Then just store it in an empty container, such as a soap container. Use it anytime you need to scrub something rather than just wipe clean.
9. Window Cleaner
Mix 1 tbsp. of castile soap with 2 cups of water into a spray bottle. Just spray window and wipe clean, making sure not to use too much at a time to avoid streaky windows.
10. Laundry Detergent
Boil up 4 cups of water and then slowly dissolve 1/2 cup of washing soda, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup kosher salt. Let it cool, then add 12 cups of water. Next, slowly add castile soap by stirring it in. Use 1/2 cup per load of laundry. Be sure to shake your laundry bottle before each use of the laundry soap mixture.
